Governors Lusaka, Roba and Yattani fined by IEBC

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) code of conduct enforcement committee has fined Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka Sh1 million over violence that erupted during the burial of his chief campaigner Edward Barasa.

The committee in its ruling ordered Lusaka to pay the fine within 24 hours and also banned him and his main opponent Wycliffe Wangamati of Ford Kenya from holding any campaign meetings.

The team led by IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati also fined Marsabit Governor Ukur Yattani of Frontier Alliance Party Sh3 million for campaign chaos during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s vote hunt tour to the county on July 26 while his opponent Mohamed Mahmoud of Jubilee Party has been fined Sh1 million shillings.

The committee further fined Mandera gubernatorial candidate Ali Roba of Jubilee Party Sh1 million for the violence that broke out during Jubilee campaigns in Mandera while his main opponent Hassan Noor of the Economic Freedom Party has been fined Ksh. 3 million.

The committee has also fined Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang Sh500,000 for violence orchestrated by his supporters against those of his arch-rival Elizabeth Ongoro of Amani National Congress.
