Governors sister burial ends in disarray

Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga sister’s burial on Saturday, January 30 turned chaotic after his supporters and Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale’s supporters confronted each other following Khalwale’s remarks on Akaranga.

Khalwale invited the wrath of Akaranga’s supporters when he claimed that Akaranga was afraid of Musalia Mudavadi during the 2013 elections and that he (Khalwale) was the one who urged him to run for the gubernatorial seat of Vihiga County.

These remarks were not taken lightly by the supporters of Akaranga who rushed towards Khalwale in a bid to snatch the microphone from him.

It was at this point that Khalwalel’s supporters also moved to protect him from any attack

The confrontation between the Kakamega senator and police officers ensued leading to the disruption of burial programme.

The chaos lasted for close to thirty minutes.

It took the intervention of several leaders, among them Kakamega governor Wylcliffe Oparanya to return tranquility at the otherwise solemn ceremony.

Oparanya took to the podium to apologize on behalf of Kakamega County.

When normalcy returned, Senator Khalwale sat at a different spot from the rest of the leaders.

In his speech, the senator urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to withdraw KDF soldiers from Somali saying many have lost their lives. He also termed as impossible the move by several leaders from African countries to withdraw from the Rome Statute that created the International Criminal Court.

Senator Khalwale has openly declared his interest to run for Kakamega gubernatorial seat currently held by Oparanya.

Khalwale is on record accusing both Vihiga governor Moses Akaranga and Wycliffe Oparanya of wasting county funds –claims the two leaders have vehemently denied.
