Govt allows NASA oathing ceremony

Police have been withdrawn from Uhuru Park ahead of the planned swearing in of NASA leader Raila Odinga as the People’s President.

Despite police warning that Uhuru Park is a no-go zone, NASA maintained that they will storm the venue for the controversial ceremony.

The facility had also been claimed by the Nairobi Business Community who said they were planning to hold a public health exercise.

Meanwhile, police in Voi are holding NASA supporters who were on their way from Mombasa to Nairobi for the swearing in ceremony.

The police impounded the three buses that were ferrying the opposition supporters over traffic offences.

According to the passengers, at least 10 of them were found without their national identity cards.

Efforts to have the rest of them proceed with their journey bore no fruit as they were led to the police station.

It is, however, reported that other NASA supporters from the region made it to Nairobi ahead of the swearing in.

This is also notably the first time in the nation’s history that an opposition leader has insisted on being ‘sworn in’ after a disputed election.

The government has also maintained that the planned swearing in ceremony is illegal and unconstitutional.
