Gov’t bans 90 criminal gangs across the country

The government has banned 90 groups that have been categorized as organized criminal gangs operating in various parts of the country.

In a gazette notice issued by Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery, the government outlawed the groups based on Section 22 (I) of the Prevention of Organized Crimes Act, 2010.

Among the notorious groups include 42 brothers, Magufuli Gogo Team, American Marines, China Squad, Baragoi Boys, Chapa Ilale, Rambo Kanambo, Gaza, Wakali Wao and Taliban Boys.

Others include Kawangware Boys, Islamic State, Vietnam, Ngundu River Boys, Tek Mateko, Nzoia Railway Gang, Eminants of Mungiki, and Temeke.

Earlier, Interior PS Karanja Kibicho had warned that some politicians are hiring goons to intimidate opponents ahead of the 2017 General Election.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has urged politicians to accept results of next year’s General Election and warned those who will lose in the coming polls against taking to the streets.

Speaking during the burial of veteran politician John Keen, Nkaissery assured Kenyans that the next polls will be conducted peacefully, adding that the government has put in place measures that will ensure lasting peace before, during and after the election

While urging leaders to accept the outcome, Nkaissey lauded CORD leaders for suspending their planned mass action slated for the 4hth of January over amendments to election law by MPs.

Also present at the burial was CORD leader Raila Odinga who demanded peaceful and credible elections, while is co-principal and Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka lauded the Senate for conducting a sober debate on the controversial changes to the poll laws.

Kalonzo said opposition leaders would wait for senators to debate on the amendments on the 4th of January before announcing their next course of action.
