Gov’t claims it has spent Ksh.600M to feed flood victims

The government claims it has so far distributed food worth Ksh.600 million to flood victims across the country.

In a statement on the floods situation in the country, Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho on Wednesday said the government had also supplied “large quantities” of medicine to mitigate the spread of diseases in the affected areas.

“The government has so far distributed food worth Ksh.600 million and large quantities of essential medicine to prevent and/or contain outbreak of water-borne diseases,” said Kibicho.

The PS assured that the government would continue rescue residents marooned by flood, supply food and medicine as well as restore sanitation systems to ensure hygienic conditions.

At least 132 people have died in the prevailing floods across the country while 222,456 others have been displaced from their homes.

Meanwhile, the government has urged Kenyans to exercise extra caution during the ongoing rainy season especially in the flood-prone areas.
