Govt commences probe into Railas swearing-in

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Wednesday, January 31 announced that the government has commenced a probe into Tuesday’s ‘swearing-in’ of NASA leader Raila Odinga as the ‘People’s President’.

“What was witnessed yesterday was a well choreographed attempt to subvert or overthrow the legally constituted government of the Republic of Kenya,” said Matiang’i.

The CS further indicated that the investigation will also extend to NASA principals, organizers and facilitators adding that upon completion of the probe, appropriate legal action would be taken in accordance with the law.

“The government is committed to the rule of law, will not accept subversion and we will act decisively,” said Matiang’i. “We will arrest those we need to and take them before a magistrate without question.”

While explaining the reasons as to why the government withdrew police from Uhuru Park ahead of the NASA ‘swearing-in’ ceremony, the CS intimated that the government had gathered intelligence of criminal elements ferried to Nairobi under the guise of NASA’s  National Resistance Movement (NRM), to massacre innocent Kenyans during the ceremony.

“We took decision to exercise restraint to stop criminals by withdrawing police officers and we are so grateful to God because a massacre was thwarted,” said Matiang’i.

“The intention was that for it to happen and then blame the police,” he added.

While terming the proscription of NRM as necessary, Matiang’i said that the movement was a criminal group to incite the public against a democratically elected government saying they must be stopped.

“The government will continue performing its cardinal responsibility of protecting lives and properties of all Kenyans regardless of their political affiliations,” said Matiang’i.

Meanwhile Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang has already been arrested over the controversial ‘swearing in’ of Mr. Odinga.

Kajwang, who administered the oath alongside NRM’s self-proclaimed general Miguna Miguna, was arrested at Milimani Law Courts and taken to the DCI headquarters.
