Gov’t committed to devolution – Ruto

Deputy President William Ruto has reiterated that there is no competition between the national and county governments as the two levels of governments are serving Kenyans.

Speaking at Naro-Sura Market in Narok-South Constituency during a funds-drive, Ruto maintained that the national government would not reverse the gains made by devolution by taking over some of their functions.

The deputy president said that the national government is committed to ensuring success and growth of counties, but criticised leaders engaged in supremacy battles in the counties, saying they were a major impediment to the success of the county governments.

On development, Ruto announced that the Narok-Sekanani-Maasai-Mara road would be Tarmacked this year, saying that Sh10 billion had been set aside to improve road network in the area.

He added that the government would inject another Sh425 million into Narok Hospital and Sh380 million into the Transmara Sub-District Hospital to upgrade them to level five and four respectively.

Ruto’s sentiments come in the backdrop of a health crisis in the counties. The county governments have blamed the government for not remitting funds to the county, leading to a delay in salaries.
