Gov’t declares December 27 a public holiday

The government has declared Tuesday, December 27 a public holiday.

In a Special Gazette Notice, Interior Cabinet Secretary, Major Gen. (Rtd.) Joseph Nkaissery, declared December 27 a public holiday after this year’s Christmas fell on Sunday meriting the government to push forward the holidays in accordance with the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

On Wednesday, employers had sought clarity on whether December 27 would be a public holiday.

The Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) Executive Director, Jacqueline Mugo, however, came out to clear the air, insisting that December 27 will be a public holiday.

She, however, added that only the Cabinet Secretary had the power to approve the same through a Gazette Notice.
