Gov’t directs that funerals be conducted within 72 hours

The government has announced a revision of protocols that will guide public gatherings such as weddings, funerals and worship ceremonies as Kenya grapples with a third coronavirus wave.

In a raft of new measures, funerals including cremations and other interment ceremonies will be conducted strictly within 72 hours of confirmation of death.

Only the immediate family of the deceased will be allowed to attend a burial with the total number of people in attendance capped at not more than 100 people.

The same cap will apply for weddings and other traditional rites where the number of those in attendance will not be expected to exceed 100 people.

At the places of worship, the State has directed strict adherence to the guidelines issued by the Inter-Faith Council which stipulate that only a maximum of one-third of the capacity of places of worship be allowed at each worship ceremony.
