Govt Failed on Garissa Attack, Activists Group

CMD chair Omingo Magara says that more lives could have been saved had security agents acted promptly.

Mr. Magara urged the security agents to learn from past mistakes and security lapses.

He questioned why the security agents failed to act on the available intelligence that had been provided by several sources.

The CMD chair challenged leaders from North Eastern to make good their promise and release names of Al Shabaab sympathisers and alleged financier.

This comes after Parliamentary Security Committee Chairman Asman Kamama claimed that security officials had specific intelligence that could have averted the Garissa University attack.

Specific and actionable intelligence

Kamama while speaking on Citizen TV’s morning show, Cheche, claimed the university administration had also learnt of the threat.

"The county security team could have done better. Because they got intelligence, very specific and actionable, in fact the university administration was aware that there was that threat, but these security officers could not even deploy one section,' said Kamama.

Following the claims, National Assembly Majority Leader Adan Duale is calling for murder charges against those who failed to take action.

"If intelligence was given the way people are saying, , specific, actionable intelligence, somebody somewhere is culpable of murder the same as the terrorists who killed. Because if today specific actionable intelligence is given on a mall 2 days, 3 days before the incident, if Duale who is in charge of that sector to provide security and he never did it, then there is no difference between me and the terrorists who are killing people," said Duale.

The failure of the security system became further apparent every hour the siege went on.

The elite Recce Squad according to Kamama arrived at the scene 8 hours after it started.
