Govt intensifies security countrywide during Ramadhan

The National Police Service on Wednesday announced that security will remain beefed up across the country and along the border during the month of Ramadhan.

Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai said more police officers have been deployed to various cities and areas near the Kenya-Somalia border for enhanced patrols.

”Following police initiative and requests from political and religious leaders, security has been intensified in order for mosques to be secure fro Muslims to conduct their prayers peacefully, and to avert possible Al-Shabaab attacks on churches,” said the IG in a statement issued by Police Spokesperson Charles Owino.

The police spokesperson urged members of the public to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious activities and individuals to security agencies.

Previously, the Al Shabaab terror group has taken advantage of the Ramadhan season to carry out a spate of attacks targeting places of worship.
