Govt launches multi-billion water projects in Ukambani

Water Cabinet Secretary, Eugene Wamalwa, on Saturday, March 4 commissioned the Nol Tauresh Water Project at Kavuko Salama in Makueni County.

The CS said the project will serve residents of Oloitoktok, Kajiado, Mashuru, Lukenya, Konza, Salama, Makueni, Machakos, Athi River and the surrounding towns.

He said the water capacity is 3.6 million cubic metres per day and the renovation cost the government Ksh 60 million.

He further said that the government focused on Ukambani following prolonged water shortages that have been experienced over the years.

The CS said that in Makueni, the government will renovate the Thwake Dam at a cost of Ksh 62 billion to ensure sufficient water supply in the area.

He said that a total of Ksh 100 billion has been budgeted for by Jubilee Government for Makueni, Machakos and Kitui Counties’ water solution.
