Govt orders singing EAC Anthem, hoisting flag in public institutions

The government has directed the hoisting of the East Africa Community (EAC) and singing of the regional body’s anthem alongside the national flag and anthem in all government and public institutions with immediate effect.

“Cabinet approved and directed the hoisting of the EAC Flag in all Government Offices and Public Institutions with immediate effect. As further set to the EAC integration, all schools will be required to hoist the EAC flag and sing the EAC Anthem alongside Kenyan Flag and National Anthem,” read the Cabinet Memo.

“The EAC flag and Anthem will be hoisted and sung respectively in all public events alongside the Kenya National flag and Anthem.”

The government said that this is a move aimed at boosting and promoting the EAC integration.

During the Sixth Cabinet Meeting 2016 chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi, the government also approved the Joint Venture between it and De La Rue Currency and security printing company.

“Under the new arrangement, a special purpose vehicle will be formed through which the Government will acquire a 40% shareholding in De La Rue Kenya Ltd. This will enable the Government to earn revenue from the venture.”

The Cabinet also directed Ministries to “immediately settle all pending payments to suppliers giving priority to Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities under the Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO).”
