Govt reaffirms solidarity with France in wake of terror attacks

The Government of Kenya has reaffirmed its support for France following the terror attacks that rocked the country on Friday night.

In a statement sent to newsrooms on Saturday morning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International trade said that Kenya mourns with the families and friends of the victims.

“The people and the Government of Kenya stand fully in solidarity with the people and Government of France at this difficult time when our common survival is threatened,” read the statement in part.

The government noted that it was outraged at the incident in France and vowed to relentlessly prosecute the global war against terror, and pursue terrorist groups and their networks.

“Like the people of Kenya, everyone must rededicate themselves to our common values and our chosen way of life”, read the statement.

“We stand with France today in sorrow for their losses as well as with a strong resolve to fight terrorism together until we are all free from this evil threat.”

On Friday, France declared a state of emergency and closed its borders after at least 153 people were killed in 6 terror attacks in Paris.

On a night when thousands of Paris residents and tourists were reveling and fans were enjoying a soccer match between France and world champion Germany, horror struck in an unprecedented manner.

Terrorists — some with AK-47s, some reportedly with bombs strapped to them — attacked sites throughout the French capital and at the stadium where the soccer match was underway.

Scores were killed in the coordinated attacks late Friday, leaving a nation in mourning and the world in shock.

Paris Prosecutor spokeswoman Agnès Thibault-Lecuivre said eight extremists are dead after the attacks.

Seven of them were killed in suicide bombings.

Over 150 people were killed in the Paris and Saint-Denis shootings and bombings, French officials said. Saint-Denis is home to the national stadium where the soccer match was being played.

The worst carnage occurred at Bataclan, with at least 112 left dead.
