Gov’t sacks port boss, top managers in war against graft

The government has sacked Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director Gichiri Ndua and other top officials over alleged graft at the port of Mombasa.

The announcement was made by the Interior Cabinet Secretary Major Gen. (Rtd.) Joseph Nkaissery to gether with his transport counterpart James Macharia, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Commissioner General John Njiraini and the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett.

Other top officials sent home include departmental General Managers, Operations Managers, Legal Services officers, Corporate Services Manager and Head of Security.

The senior officials serving in the port were sacked in a bid to reduce corruption and enhance the efficiency at the port.

Addressing the press at Harambee House Tuesday, Transport CS James Macharia said the port board took the move to address the matters affecting the operations at the port of Mombasa.

KRA Commissioner General said they have commenced internal investigation and staff found culpable will be prosecuted.

Earlier this month, KRA officials began the destruction of illicit cargo at the port of Mombasa in an exercise that took three days.

The consignment destroyed included 18 containers of sugar, 49 containers of rice and 63 containers of ethanol and other contraband goods.
