Govt Sets Aside Ksh. 57 Billion For Roads

Roads Principal Secretary Eng. John Mosonik says the ministry will use the funds in improving 2,000 Kms of major highways and another 8,000 Kms of rural roads

This is in line with the Jubilee government manifesto that aims at improving a total of 10,000 km of road in five years.

Mosonik said that during the 2014-2015 financial year, the ministry will construct 2000 kms of rural roads and 500 kms of tarmac roads.

The PS said that some of the roads slated for construction include Njoro-Mau Narok road and Elementaita –Mau Narok road.

Design works are also complete for the Kunste and Lanet interchanges near Nakuru town.

He said that completion of the interchanges will ease traffic for vehicles travelling to and from Nyahururu and Lanet.

While reiterating the need to ease constant traffic jams in Nakuru town, the PS said that budgeting has already been done for the Lanet- Njoro turn off by pass.

Construction of the bypass stalled due to a court case filed by residents of the posh Naka estate in Nakuru.

The PS pointed out that the ministry was also working hard to ensure construction works at the Nakuru- Nyahururu highway is completed.

On construction works at the JKIA, Mosonik said that pending work is expected to be complete by the end of this year in order to ease congestion especially in terminal 4.
