Gov’t stopped from destroying alcohol
The government has been banned from executing the destruction of alcoholic products belonging to the Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL).
The directive was issued by the High Court in Nairobi Wednesday after the company filed a complaint against the government over the destruction of its legally accepted products.
The directive followed the call by President Uhuru Kenyatta who urged Kenyans last week to take action on second generation brews killing Kenyans.
Kenyans, especially those from Central Kenya, then went on a rampage, destroying even drinks that are licenced.
KBL said that it had already lost property worth millions of shillings and expected the government to stop the public action from taking place.
“This order bars the destruction of products owned by the complainant,” the order addressed to the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Interior and Inspector General of Police (IG) said.
The President has since called on Kenyans not to destroy products that are not illegal and stop the destruction of property of law abiding individuals.
