Govt to connect all Public Primary Schools to clean water

The government now says that it will connect all public primary schools across the country to clean water soon after they are connected to electricity. This is according to Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.

CS Wamalwa announced this when he attended the Water, Electricity and Power Expo at KICC in Nairobi.

Wamalwa said the First Phase of the Water Connection Project will be launched as soon as the Power Connectivity Project concludes.

He said that this is part of the Government’s plans to expand access to clean water and electricity by all Kenyans.

This comes barely a week after the Cabinet Secretary for Energy Charles Keter gave a two-week ultimatum to Kenya Power to connect all primary schools to electricity.

Keter said a Ksh 7 billion budget for the National Public Lighting Programme will come from the exchequer, not donors as alleged by CORD leader Raila Odinga.

State authorities also have one year to light up streets and roads in 52 towns and cities across the country.

Kenya is hosting the Third Water, Electricity and Power Expo (Wepex 2016), which is the largest platform for products, services and technologies in the water and energy sectors.

The 3-day event is scheduled to take place at KICC from 2nd- 4th February, 2016.

According to organizers, the objective of the Expo is to provide a platform to showcase latest technologies in the utilities industry, build awareness of products and services within the sectors, knowledge sharing and opportunities for best practices with the world’s leading players in the water, electricity and renewable energy industries.

Over 6 countries will participate, showcasing their latest technologies. and equipment, raising their corporate profiles and building awareness about products and services while sharing ideas and best practices with the world’s leading players in the Water, Electricity and Power industries.

Kenya’s utilities sector is expanding as an outcome of the growing demand for energy and water resulting from the rapid urban and industrial expansion, a fast-growing population, change in modern lifestyle and continuing government investment in infrastructure projects.

Kenya’s Power and Water demand has witnessed a rapid growth which has led to ambitious programmes to cater to the growing demand for utilities, providing a host of opportunities for private and market sector investors alike.

The event organized by IkapaMedia East Africa (Kenya) in conjunction with other stakeholders will bring together utility professionals from across the globe to learn, share knowledge and engage with Kenyan entrepreneurs on topics that will secure the future development of Kenya’s Power and Water Industries.
