Govt To Construct 60 Technical Institutes This Year

The technical institutes are part of over 200 institutes the government is planning to put up before 2017.

Ruto said the institutes will promote a knowledge-based economy to improve national prosperity and global competitiveness.

“We want to develop youth expertise and skills necessary for the achievement of the Vision 2030. We want to have manpower skills and competence to tap the talent of the young people to help us drive the economy,” said Ruto.

Ruto also promised that students in technical institutions will access loans from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) and asked youth pursuing diploma courses to make use of the opportunity.

The Deputy President added that the project will ensure improved quality, equity and reliability in the delivery of post-secondary education.

Ruto was speaking during the opening of the International Youth Fellowship held at the Manheim International School in Nairobi.
