Gov’t to Expand Cash Transfer Program to People with Disability

Ruto says government will from next financial year increase number of elderly and persons living with severe disabilities to the cash transfer programme from current 27,200 to at least 55,000.

The DP says government currently uses 770 million shillings annually to pay the elderly, persons with disabilities and the needy as part of the cash transfer programme.

Speaking at Joy Town Special School for the physically challenged in Thika, Kiambu County, Ruto told national and county government accounting officers to ensure 30% of tenders and 5% of jobs in public service are set aside for disabled persons.

Ruto has further dismissed opposition calls for referendum saying such campaigns will not derail Jubilee government from implementing its development agenda.
