Govt to facilitate IEBC deliver credible election Matiangi

Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, has said that the government will facilitate the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to deliver free and fair elections on August 8.

Speaking after meeting after the Diplomats Corps at a Nairobi hotel, Matiangi said that the state has addressed concerns raised by diplomats and observer missions and is adequately prepared to support the IEBC deliver on its mandate.

“This morning we had a meeting with diplomatic corps and we have shared with them plans we have to secure our nation on elections day, we have made a presentation to them on how we will support the IEBC,” Matiang’i said.

On Tuesday, July 25, during the launch of an MI7 helicopter at Wilson Airport, the CS said that as it stands, the National Police Service has a capacity of 4 choppers which will help them navigate the country with the aim of maintaining peace.

Matiang’i exuded confidence that Kenyans will cast their ballot peacefully saying that the officers who will be deployed in different parts of the country are well-trained and the police personnel-population ratio is good enough to secure the country.

“As a government we will continue to support the police unit and we have a security plan and I can confidently say we are prepared for the election,” Matiang’i said.
