Govt to hand over 1,370 affordable housing units in Park Road over the next month

The State Department for Housing and Urban Development will spend one month allocating the 1,370 units at the Park Road Affordable Housing Programme premises in Ngara.

The criteria for the allocation of the Park Road project units is 60 per cent civil servants and 40 per cent other citizens

According to Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga, the allocation process will largely observe the first-come, first-served principle basis on when applicants finished paying a deposit of 12.5% of the unit cost but also consider a number of social factors including ability to pay, income levels, accessibility, and concerns for those living with disabilities, among others.

The prices of the houses range between Ksh.1.5 million and Ksh.4 million.

Homeowners will be expected to live in their houses and will not be allowed to sell before the lapse of 8 years to avoid speculation on these units.

“The completion and sale of the Park Road housing units in record time, will pave way for ground-breaking and the launch of several other affordable housing programme projects, here in the city and also across the country,” said PS Hinga.
