Gov’t to issue title deeds to scout centres – Kaimenyi

Lands Cabinet Secretary Prof Joseph Kaimenyi has said that his ministry will identify and issue title deeds to all scout centres to enhance devolution of scouting activities to the 47 counties.

Speaking to the media after presiding over this year’s commemoration of Founder’s Day in Nyeri Town, Kaimenyi noted that the movement has encountered challenges in the acquisition of land for scout centres.

He stated that a title deed would be issued to the Nyeri Scout Centre so as that a state-of-the-art facility can be set up for annual international events.

Kenya Scouts Association (KSA) patron Francis Ole Kaparo said they have plans to build a fully-fledged international scout facility in Nyeri Town.

Kaparo said that once the title deeds are issued by the Ministry, the centre will be refurbished to international standards in a bid to accommodate visitors from across the globe.

“This is the resting place of scout movement founder Lord Barden Powell and Kenyans should capitalise on this,” Kaparo noted.

He said that the bold move by the government would help the future generations of this country because scouting is here to stay, adding that KSA opted to devolve the annual Founder’s Day celebrations to counties so as to incorporate more scouts and girl guides into the movement.

“Since devolution of the celebrations a year ago, county scout officials have retained their rightful place in the management of scouting activities,” he said, adding that more governors have been recruited in the movement as county scout patrons and there is a streamlined coordination of the activities.

Kaimenyi is tomorrow (Monday) is expected to issue 369 title deeds to squatters living in colonial villages in Nyeri Town Constituency.
