Govt to set up resource center for climatic change in Samburu

The Government on Friday 15th December announced plans to establish a community based resource center for climatic change in Samburu County.

According to the Ministry of environment and natural resources’ low emission and climate resilient development project Manager Dr Haron Maina Warui, the center that is being established at Lesidai area in Samburu west as a pilot project in arid and semi arid regions across the country.

Warui further indicated that the project will be extended to other counties with Marsabit being next upon successful pilot in Samburu County.

“It is an intiative that has been established with communities based on their needs and strives at enhancing business and information sharing,” he said.

This was after the various heads of departments from Samburu County attended a consultative climactic change forum at Samburu guest house in Maralal town and  welcomed the project noting that it would be of benefit to the government and residents.

On her part, the County Executive Committee member in charge of Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Energy Dorcas Lekisanyal said that a part of the budget set aside for renewable energy would also be used to support the project.

Lekisanyal said that Samburu County being among the worst hit areas with climatic change with increased droughts and floods, the resource center would provide the county government and residents with adequate business information for appropriate planning.
