Govt to set up talent centres in all counties

The national government, through the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), says that it will establish Art promotion centers dubbed ‘Sinema Mashinani’ Centres in a bid to enable youth to effectively exploit their talents in the film and arts industry.

Speaking at Isiolo Boys High School where the first center will be established, KFCB CEO, Ezekiel Mutua, said the government will set up similar centers across all schools that were identified as talent centers in all counties. Each County has one school recognized by the Ministry of Education as a talent center.

He expressed optimism that the center will provide a platform for young people who have talents in the Arts and Film industry to exploit their abilities and earn from the same.

He reiterated the board’s commitment towards content regulation to ensure that high moral standards are observed.

The Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Arts, Hassan Wario, said that throughout the world, the richest people are those that have been able to exploit their talents in both sports and film sectors.

He cited culture as a basic item that helps to uphold high moral standards as well as acting as a major tourist attraction tool. He lauded KFCB for helping retain the moral values through strict content regulation such as banning particular movies regarded as obscene.
