Govt to spend Ksh.580M to train 100K teachers on CBC

The government has announced that it is set to train 100,900 teachers on Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) delivery at a cost of Ksh.580 million as it gears to roll out the Grade 4 system in January, 2020.

Nancy Macharia, the CEO of the Teachers Service Commission said that over 228,000 teachers have already been trained on the CBC program.

“The TSC is determined to retool teachers to enable them handle the CBC in all Primary School grades. Starting December 2, the Commission will retool 100,900 teachers on CBC delivery at a cost of Ksh.580 million. By the end of the training, the commission will have trained 228,000 teachers on CBC,” she said.

Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha said that 14 million books have already been printed and are being delivered to schools within the next few days.

“I am glad to state that we have already printed 14 million books. Those books are being distributed as we speak and I want to give my word of honour to the nation that by 17 December, all the books for Grade 4 will be in the various schools,” said Magoha during the release of the 2019 KCPE results.

“I assured the President that come January 6, we shall have CBC rolled out in Grade 4.”
