Govt urged to brand Kenya as top tourism destination

Maasai Mara Conservancies Chairman Linus Gitahi has challenged the National Government to market Kenya as the world’s best tourism destination, adding they could do this through proper branding.

Speaking during a graduation ceremony of 23 Students at Koiyaki Guiding School in Maasai Mara, he said that the government should do more to promote the tourism sector. He added that tour guides are key stakeholders in the docket; therefore they should be empowered further.

Daniel Sopia, Chief Programs Officer Maasai Mara Wildlife Conservancies, urged the Government to waive the 16 percent VAT arguing that this would increase leasing of land to promote the conservancies.

Julius Kisiemei the institution’s administrator commended the 247 graduates that have passed through the institution over the past 10 years, adding that they have represented the institution superbly.

Kisiemei also called on Narok County Government to support the institution through by supporting the youth at local level.

The institution was started in 2005 with help from the European Union, Task Trust Charitable Organization and the Koiyaki Community.

The institution has won numerous awards and accolades locally regionally and internationally.
