Govt waives exam fees for private school candidates

The government has waived Kenya Certified of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination fee for private schools.

The announcement was made by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday during the National Music Festivals concert staged at state House, Nairobi.

“With effect from next year, the Government has extended the exam fee waiver for private school’s students for the KCPE and KCSE exams,” announced the Head of State.

The waiver is a relieve to the private schools students who have continued to pay the exam fee even as their public schools counterparts continued enjoying the waiver.

The President said that the government will continue to support the education sector by allocating sufficient resources to the management of public schools in Kenya.

“The allocation for Free Day Secondary Funding in 2016/2017 is Ksh 29 billion. These resources will go a long way towards achieving 100 percent transition rate from primary to secondary education if used effectively and transparently,” added President Kenyatta.

“Further to the education allocation, the CDF funds allocated in 2016/2017 is 34 billion shillings with a significant amount expected to go to education.”

He was, however, quick to note that the fees guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education will not be reviewed anytime soon.

“It is therefore, not necessary to review school fees guidelines. Consequently, the current fees guidelines will remain.”
