Grace Mugabe at centre of battle for husband’s body – reports

It has now emerged that after the State funeral for the late Robert Mugabe, the government and his family are still fighting over who will take charge of the final rites.

According to VOA, information has leaked about secret conversations of burial plans being changed several times following disagreements.

This became evident when the government announced that Mugabe would be buried at Heroes Acre Cemetery in Harare on Sunday.

Later on the same day, the family instead announced that the burial would take place within 30 days.

Pundits claim that the two parties could be trying to buy time to resolve their differences.

According to Derek Matyszak, a consultant held in Harare, at the centre of the tussle is widow Grace Mugabe.

“She’s in a very weakened position from how she was before Mugabe’s death,” Matyszak told VOA.

“Mnangagwa has been at pains to say that all is well between him and Grace Mugabe, and to try and present that face to the world and to the regional leaders,” he added.

The consultant opines that many people believe that it was because of her that Mnangagwa was fired from office by the late Mugabe.

“She certainly needs to keep a low profile, and I think she might find things a little bit uncomfortable,” said Matyszak.

Grace currently faces arrest in South Africa for allegedly assaulting a South African model with an electrical extension cord in 2017.

She is also under sanctions and has travel bans from the European Union and the United States.

However, Leo Mugabe, the family spokesperson, insists that: “She’s a Zimbabwean. She has no reason to go anywhere.”
