Grief as standard 8 pupil commits suicide

The body of a standard eight pupil was found at Gaturi Ward in Kiharu Constituency of Murang’a County after he committed suicide over unknown reasons.

The deceased, Jackson Chege, was a Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidate at Mweru Primary School.

His family expressed distress upon learning of the unfortunate incident, saying it was a big blow to the family.

Margret Nyambura, mother to the deceased, said her son went to school and tuition sessions as usual and even went through his evening chores as expected.

Nyambura said, “When I learnt that Chege was home safe from school I decided to tend to some chores but I did not expect things to take such a turn.”

It is still unclear what led to Chege’s suicide, as he did not seem troubled.

A grieving Nyambura also added that this was a big loss as the boy was of good character, an average performer and easy to be with.

At the same time, she told Citizen Digital that this was the second incident of a school boy hanging himself at the school, noting that the first incident took place months ago when another class eight pupil who was her son’s classmate took his own life.

She added that the death of her son is tough for the family to comprehend, noting that it will also be difficult for them to raise the money required for the burial.

Grace Wamaitha, aunt to the deceased, said it was unfortunate for the family to lose such a young boy who had a bright future ahead of him.
