Guard killed, bags of coffee stolen in Nyamira
A sombre mood has engulfed Nyakenimo Village in Nyamira County after armed robbers raided Nyakenimo Coffee Society killing a night guard and injuring two others before stealing over one hundred bags of coffee.
A night guard who survived the attack told Citizen Digital that the robbers struck at about midnight, tied three guards before breaking into the coffee stores.
He said his colleague tried to escape but the gang caught up with him and killed him.
Coffee farmers who supply coffee to the society have raised concern over the incident and now want the government to tighten security since this is the second time robbers have invaded the place in six months.
Shocked farmers suspect the raid could have been an inside job and have demanded investigations while threatening to uproot their coffee plants if the government does not address their security challenges.
The body of the killed night guard has been moved to the Nyamira Hospital mortuary.
