Guard your votes on nomination day, Waiguru to supporters

Kirinyaga Governorship aspirant Anne Waiguru has urged her supporters to keep vigil during Jubilee party nominations to prevent cases of electoral fraud.

Speaking during her Meet The People Tour last week, Waiguru claimed that there was a plot by some aspirants to use violence to disrupt the nominations.

Anne Waiguru urged her supporters to turnout in large numbers and vote overwhelmingly for her “to send Ndathi home”.

“We have had four years of disastrous leadership and that is enough. It is time for the people of Kirinyaga to vote for a change in leadership and development,” she stated.

“I would like to encourage you to turnout in large numbers on April 21 and send Ndathi home by midday.”

She further called for peace during the process to ensure democracy is realised.

Kirinyaga is one of the Jubilee regions that is facing a fierce battle for governorship between former CS Waiguru and the incumbent Joseph Ndathi, both of who are gunning for the Jubilee party ticket.

The county’s election board selection meeting was last month disrupted by supporters allegedly linked to Ndathi as they pushed to have their cronies take up the positions.

The incident irked Jubilee party hierarchy who reportedly summoned Governor Ndathi over the skirmishes.

Waiguru had condemned the violence, saying it did not reflect the character of the people of Kirinyaga.

“We have information that a few people were ferried from other counties and paid to disrupt the exercise.

“This is not who we are. The people of Kirinyaga are peaceful and respectful.”

Meanwhile, Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju has warned aspirants against engaging in violence during the exercise, saying stern action will be taken against those involved.

“If you organise people to come and cause violence, they will be arrested. And please make sure you’ve not been talking to them on phone.”

Tuju further said that aspirants have until April 19 to campaign adding that anyone who flouts the regulations will be disqualified from the nominations.

He exuded confidence that the process will be free, fair and peaceful saying there will be no room for rigging.

Tuju further stated that three aspirants have been disqualified from the nominations for failing to meet the party’s threshold.

Jubilee on Sunday begun dispatching voting materials to their 23,000 polling stations in the country to be used for nominations.
