Guinean Caught with Sh35.5m heroin to be Arraigned in Court

A Guinean national is today expected to be arraigned in court after he was on Saturday evening arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, carrying 11.8 kilogrammes of heroin valued at around 35.5 million shillings.

Ramady Diakite is said to have been travelling from Arusha in Tanzania to Bamako in Mali when he was intercepted by anti-narcotics detectives.

The suspect had concealed the drugs as cosmetics when they were detected by anti-narcotics officials at the airport.

This comes just two weeks after three people were nabbed with more than 2 kilogrammes of heroin worth 6.2 million shillings along Nairobi-Namanga highway.

According to latest police statistics some 1,359 cases of drug trafficking were detected in Kenya in 2014 and 1,513 suspects arrested.
