Guinean Nabbed at JKIA with Heroin Worth Sh35.5m

Anti-narcotics detectives have arrested a Guinea national at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) with 11.8 Kg of heroin valued at Sh35.5 million.

Ramady Diakite was travelling from Arusha, Tanzania to Bamako in Mali when he was intercepted at the airport on Friday evening.

The arrest was made after the detectives found the suspect's luggage with narcotics concealed as cosmetics.

The drugs were later taken to the government chemist for analysis with tests confirming it is heroin.

CASES FROM TANZANIA

Police say they have seen many cases of heroin originating from Tanzania.

Kenya Airports Police unit CID boss Judy Jebet said the suspect is expected in court on Monday.

Two weeks ago, three relatives were arrested and more than two kilos of heroin valued at Sh6.2 million found on them along the Nairobi-Namanga highway.

Statistics show police at the airport seized drugs worth over 1billion last year alone. Most of those arrested were passengers on transit.
