Gun stolen at a Police Station recovered

Police have recovered one of the seven guns stolen from Booker Police station in Mumias over a fortnight ago after armed assailants raided the installation.

The gun was recovered Saturday, December 3 in a remote area of Mayoni, Shibale in Kakamega County in the ongoing operation to retrieve the stolen firearms.

Western Regional Police Commander, Moses Ombati, said that two suspects were also arrested with connection to the raid.

On November 23, 2016, a police officer identified Ezekiel Juma, suffered serious head injuries after the gang invaded the police station slashing him severally with sharp objects.

The police officer was alone manning the station when the dawn attack occurred as his colleagues were out on regular patrol.

“The gang raided at a time when the victim was manning the reporting desk alone. His three colleagues were out on patrol,” said regional police boss, Moses Ombati.

The victim was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital, Mumias for first aid before being airlifted to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret for specialized treatment.

This was followed by a police operation in Mumias to recover the stolen armouries.

The operation, however, attracted sharp condemnation from human rights groups and politicians for what was termed as police brutality.

Police were accused of applying excessive force in the operation to the extent of raping women and brutalizing the community.

Over a week ago, the National Police Service offered a Ksh 500,000 reward for any person with crucial information that would lead to the arrest of criminals who invaded the Booker Police Station and recovery of the weapons stolen.
