Hardcore criminals escape from a Bungoma prison

Two hardcore criminals have escaped from Bungoma prison under unclear circumstances.

The prison’s commandant Henry Ochieng confirmed the incident and says that the two escaped on Sunday after allegedly getting help from the wardens.

Ochieng added that they have launched a manhunt and are currently co-operating with other security agencies in an effort to apprehend the escapees.

He, however, declined to release the names of the prisoners.

Elsewhere, police officers have seized and destroyed alcohol worth millions of shillings at a civil servant’s estate in Nairobi’s Langata area.

According to the Deputy Police commandant John Langat the consignment was hidden in various places within a residential home that also served as a depot.

Area Nyumba Kumi Chairman who accompanied the police said they acted on a tip off by area residents.
