Harlem community says Trump will put them in the doghouse

U.S. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump met with minority Republicans in New York on Thursday (August 25), a day after calling his rival Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton as a “bigot”.

“Hillary Clinton is a bigot who sees people of color only as votes, not as human beings worthy of a better future,” Trump said at a rally in Jackson, Mississippi Wednesday (August 24) night. “She’s going to do nothing for African-Americans, She’s going to do nothing for the Hispanics. She’s only going to take care of herself, her husband, her consultants, her donors. These are the people she cares about. She doesn’t care what her policies have done to your communities. She doesn’t care.”

Before the meeting with Trump on Thursday, pastor Mark Burns argued with undocumented Mexican immigrant Eric Cruz Lopez outside of Trump Tower. Burns would not answer Lopez on whether Burns supported Trump’s stance on immigration, but Burns told him, “Donald Trump is not a racist”.

Members of New York City’s Harlem community voiced their opinions about the real estate magnate.

“Since he plummeting in the polls, now he’s reaching out to Hispanics and Afro-Americans and he’s trying to use us as a stepping stone in order for him to get to the White House so he could put us in the dog house,” Mr. Sneed said.

“Ain’t nothing happening. Ain’t nothing but tricknology from this man. This man ain’t for real, plain and simple, plain and simple, so just wash him up, that’s it,” he added.

“I think he don’t like the blacks and Latinos, he’s just using them now because he needs their votes,” Ricardo Ramirez said. “He’s a very racist man.”

Trump has been heavily criticized by minorities so far in the campaign for his proposals on immigration, which include deporting millions of undocumented foreigners, building a wall along the Mexican border, and suspending Muslim immigration to shore up national security.
