Head teacher arrested for failing to release pupils for half-term break

The head teacher of Tea Vale Academy in Belgut, Kericho County was on Thursday arrested for “refusing to release pupils for mid-term break”.

Kericho County Director of Education, Zachary Mutwiri, confirmed that Hilary Rotich was arrested after it was discovered that learning was still taking place at the school.

This was inspite of the government’s academic calendar showing that learners should be at home for the mid-term break during this period.

An impromptu visit at the facility by police and Kericho County education officials yielded the discovery.

Rotich was taken to Sosiot Police Station while the Tea Vale Academy top administration was ordered to release the pupils for half-term break.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned on Friday June 21, 2019.
