Head teacher saved from parents threatening to rough him up

A primary school head teacher from Uriri Sub-County in Migori County was on Wednesday, January 18 morning rescued from irate parents who threatened to rough him up over the poor performance of the pupils and the rising cases of indiscipline among the learners.

Parents of Magongo Primary School marched to the school compound, harassed the head teacher before holding him hostage demanding for his immediate transfer.

It took the intervention of police officers and regional education officials to rescue him from the visibly angry parents.

The parents are blaming him for apparent failure to control and ensure his teachers are performing their duties.

They attribute the poor performance in the school to poor management.

According to the parents, the children are taught in their local dialect instead of the official languages; English and Swahili.

David Owino, one of the parents, says that they have tried to advise the head teacher but he does not take their counsel seriously.

Uriri Sub County Education Officer, Tom Nyamanga, said that the parents grievances will be responded to within the shortest time possible.
