Heads Of State Meet Over LAPPSET Project
Presidents Yoweri Museveni (Uganda), Salva Kiir (South Sudan) and Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Haile Mariam Desalegn were updated on the Ksh 2.5T project.
The project is expected to open up the Northern region for development, and boost the economies of the nations involved.
LAPPSET project will comprise of a new road network, a railway line, an oil refinery at Lamu, oil pipeline, Isiolo and Lamu Airports and a free port at Lamu.
It will also involve the development of a new transport corridor from the new port of Lamu through Garissa, Isiolo, Mararal, Lodwar and Lokichoggio to branch at Isiolo to Ethiopia and Southern Sudan.
The project is chaired by former Head of Civil Service Francis Muthaura while Sylvester Kasuku is the chief executive officer.
It is part of the Vision 2030 development agenda, and is expected to integrate northern region of Kenya into the national economy once it is completed.
