Headteacher, supervisor in court over alleged exam papers tampering

Gatuanyaga Secondary School principal, an examination supervisor and an Administration Police officer were charged at a Nanyuki Court with damaging examination material at Kieni, Nyeri County.

The Principal, Joseph Weru, supervisor Lucy Gathiru and Sergeant Laban Murage appeared before Chief Magistrate Lucy Mutai to face charges of willfully and maliciously tampering with the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) materials.
Weru and Gathiru allegedly created two holes on the packaged examination with intent to access the Chemistry paper.

They denied the charges and were released on a Ksh 800,000 bond with sureties of the same amount or a cash bail of Ksh 300,000 each.
Should they be found guilty, the suspects could be jailed for up to five years or be fined Ksh 5 million each.
The case will be mentioned on November 21 before being heard on January 19 next year.
