Health crisis looms as KMPDU summons all county union officials

The Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists’ Union (KMPDU) has summoned all 47 County union officials to attend an annual delegates conference where a key decision is expected to be made on the stalemate over the employment of doctors.

Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu has however admitted that counties are unable to absorb all trained doctors due to lack of funds.

The CS has now appealed to unemployed medical doctors to seek for employment from the private sector.

The country is facing a health crisis after doctors threatened to down their tools over the differences between the Counties and the National Government on the employment of graduate medical doctors.

County governments have since stopped employing of doctors despite a huge shortage of doctors saying they have no money to pay additional doctors.
