Health workers strike in Kisumu enters day 2

Health services in Kisumu were disrupted for the second day after health workers continued with their salary parade, demanding arrears backdating to as far as March.

Speaking at the Kisumu County Hospital on Friday, KNUN Deputy Secretary General Maurice Opetu faulted the County Government for failing to honour their end of the bargain.

The workers initial strike was halted by a Kisumu court, which had given the county an ultimatum to pay all the pending salaries by August 19, failure to which the health workers were at liberty to resume their strike.

Counties had initially cited challenges in remittance of salaries, with the Ksh.29B shillings released by treasury two weeks ago, expected to have eased the hitch.

Various counties have reported paralysis in health services after workers in the sector downed their tools.
