Hearing for Ksh.27M Homa Bay graft case set for November

The Homa Bay High Court has set the hearing date for the Ksh.27.8 million corruption case involving five county officials as November 5-7.

Senior Principal Magistrate Thomas Obutu issued the ruling on Friday.

The Prosecution also indicated that they will present up to 52 witnesses to testify against the said suspects.

Defence lawyer Samuel Nyauke however pleaded with the court to reduce the bond which now stands at Ksh.2 million each.

He claimed that his clients have been reduced to abject poverty and cannot afford the hefty amount as they will be forced to auction their property.

The court ruled in their favour on the matter and granted Kephers and Amek a reprieve by reducing their bond terms.

The accused persons include Bob Kephers (clerk), Maurice Amek (senior accounts controller), Caroline Sang(senior accounts controller), Edwin Okello (cashier), Owino Ooro (former majority leader), Isaac Nyandege (minority leader) and Judith Kamaria (nominated MCA).
