Hearing Of Digital Migration Case Underway

Royal Media Services, Nation Media Group and Standard Group Limited is being represented by senior counsel Paul Muite in the case.

During the hearing, lawyers representing Communications Commission of Kenya opposed introduction of a letter presented by lawyers representing the three media houses.

The lawyers distanced CCK from the letter said to have been written by the body licensing digital signal distributor Signet to broadcast contents from 5 local TV stations and asked the court to dismiss it.

However, the three major media houses want the letter included as evidence saying it allows Signet to infringe on their rights by transmitting their content without consent against provisions of article 34 of the constitution.

The three judge bench will rule on the letter shortly and later issue a verdict on the case that saw digital migration postponed for 45 days last year.
