Heavy rains expected in Kisii county, Met warns

Residents of Kisii County have been asked to prepare well for the October-December rainy season.

Kisii county director of meteorology Henry Sese, in an advisory to the public, said the rainy season has already begun and the rains are expected to be heavier than usual.

Apart from preparing to harvest the water, the director urged members of the public to take advantage of the rains and consult the agriculture officials on the type of crops that can be planted during this season.

The director has called on the county government and other relevant authorities to ensure that old trees within Kisii town are removed to avert possible accidents during the rains.

Earlier this week, parts of Kisii town experienced power blackout after a branch fell on the power lines following heavy rains that were accompanied by strong winds.

Sese has also called on the county government to ensure that the drainage system is cleared to allow smooth flow of rain water and avoid flash floods.
