Heavy rains to continue, weatherman warns

The Kenya Meteorological Service has warned that heavy rains will continue in many parts of the country for the next five days.

In a statement, the Met department warned Kenyans to expect heavy rainfall of more than 50mm on Friday over Western Kenya, Southeastern lowlands, Central Rift Valley, Central Kenya including Nairobi area. Also, parts of northern Kenya (Isiolo and Samburu), parts of Northeastern areas (Garissa) and coastal region (parts of Kwale, Lamu and northern parts of Tana River) will experience heavy rainfall.

Residents in urban and low-lying areas are, once again, advised to be on the lookout for floods.

“The heavy rainfall is likely to continue on Saturday, 17 March 2018 over counties in the Western, south and central Rift Valley, southeastern, Northern (Isiolo and Samburu), Central parts of Kenya including Nairobi area and the Coast but with reduced intensities,” read the statement.

Counties that will be affected include include: Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Muranga, Embu, Meru, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Nakuru, Narok, Migori, Nandi, Baringo, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elegeyo Marakwet, Vihiga, Bungoma, Homa Bay, Busia, Kisumu, Siaya, Garissa, Kakamega, Kajiado, Nakuru, Marsabit, Samburu and Isiolo.

The department further cautioned drivers against avoid speeding owing to slippery roads and reduced visibility.
