Heyckal packers busted rebranding Kabras sugar as Naivas

A sugar and rice re-packaging company is under investigation over suspicion that it has been duping Kenyans using low graded products.

Officers from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KeBS) and public health raided the firm and confiscated 2600 bags of sugar and 600 bags of rice.

Detectives suspect that the company has been duping Kenyans by altering the quality of rice and sugar re-packaged.

Heykal packers has been repackaging Kabras sugar from West Kenya Sugar factory into 1 and 2 kilograms packs labeled Naivas sugar and economy.

The company also repackages Thailand rice into packs labeled Kenya Pishori.

Detectives believe that Heykal packers have been cheating consumers by repackaging grade 2 rice as grade 1 selling it higher prices.

The multi – agency team confiscated documents for verification with the mentioned firms.

Ismael Mohamed, the owner of Heykal packers was briefly arrested and is out on a Ksh.100,000 police bond pending the results of investigations.
