High Court Judge Nicholas Ombija resigns

High Court Judge Nicholas Ombija has resigned.

According to a highly placed source within the Judiciary, Justice Ombija tabled his resignation letter saying that he was not ready to be vetted afresh by the Sharad Rao-led Judges and Magistrates Vetting Board.

The Board has since received Omboja’s letter.

Ombija was to undergo fresh vetting after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the Judges and Magistrates Vetting Board that sought orders to vet him again.

The vetting board had filed a petition challenging a ruling by the Appellate Court which prevented it from vetting Justice Ombija afresh.

Justice Ombija had been declared unsuitable to continue serving in the Judiciary by the board.
