High school principals demoted for lying to the govt

Two secondary school principals based in Homa Bay County have been demoted following allegations of receiving cash from the government illegally.

The two, Jeremiah Onyango Otieno of Kamolo Secondary School and Naphtaly Obiero of Kodhoch Secondary School are alleged to have inflated the number of students in their schools in order to receive more funding from the government to cater for them.

Otieno is purported to have received Ksh 643,500 while Obiero received Ksh 476,000.

Director of Teachers Service Commission, Homa Bay County, Diosiana Ahindukha, has said the two will remain as regular teachers until their cases have been determined, with an option of being relieved of their jobs.

This comes even after the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) warned its teachers working in Baringo against reporting to work following recent cases of insecurity reported in the area.

Baringo branch KNUT Secretary, Joshua Cheptarus, told teachers working in the volatile region top remain at home until the security situation is addressed.

Some schools in Baringo North and South were shut down three months ago following an increase in banditry attacks in the area.
